Dr. Jacek Kozuch

N° 25

Date finished: Nov. 2012

Batch: SS09

Country of origin: Poland/Germany

Supervisor(s): Prof. Hildebrandt (TU, now retired) , Prof. Friedrich (TU)

Area PhD: Structure-Function Relationships of Membrane Proteins – Spectroelectrochemistry of Artificial Membranes

Present occupation:

01/2021 - now: Junior Research Group Leader (Group "Experimental Molecular Biophysics") and Principal Investigator in Collaborative Research Center 1078, Fachbereich Physik, Freie Universität Berlin

Current research field: We are using surface-sensitive and nanoscale infrared spectroscopies to explore how electrostatics sculpt and couple structural and functional motifs that drive biological processes with high specificity and efficiency. We are addressing biomedically relevant questions revolving around (anti)microbial action and resistance, and protein misfolding in neurodegenerative diseases.

Past occupations:

01/2020 - 12/2021: PostDoc at FU-Berlin, Department of Physics, AK Heberle
02/2017 - 12/2019: Postdoc in Stanford (USA), Department of Chemistry, Prof. Steven Boxer
12/2012 - 01/2017: PostDoc in the group of Prof. Hildebrandt, TU-Berlin
