On June 18, 2026, BIG-NSE alumnus Prof. Dr. Pradip Dey visited the EC²/BIG-NSE office at TU Berlin. He was in Berlin for a research stay in the group of his former PhD supervisor, Prof. Rainer Haag at Freie Universität Berlin, and used the occasion to look in on us.
Pradip belongs to the WS10 BIG-NSE batch and completed his PhD in October 2015. He was supervised by Prof. Rainer Haag (FU Berlin) and Prof. Regine von Klitzing (TU Berlin). His thesis dealt with polyglycerol-based hydrogels for the immobilization of catalytically active enzymes and as scaffolds for cells.
After his doctorate, Pradip stayed on as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Haag's group until March 2017. He then moved to the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) in Kolkata, working with Prof. Suhrit Ghosh from 2017 to 2019, and spent 2020 to 2021 at Tel Aviv University in the group of Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro. Since July 2021, he has been Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Siksha Bhavana, Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan, West Bengal.
Over lunch, we exchanged news about his work in India and about developments at the BIG-NSE. It was a pleasure to see him again.
